About the event
Separate and Together - Artwork by Tamara Koransky
Opening Reception: Friday, March 13th from 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM in the Friendly Community Room.
Tamara Koransky creates mandala designs and art with radial symmetry, drawing and painting these pieces freehand on canvas, paper, and with digital tools. She cuts apart mandalas to create collages and paints patterns on vinyl records that function as kinetic wall sculptures.
Tamara does not plan her singular mandala designs before she starts; instead, she begins in the center with a pattern and allows the design to unfold from a subconscious place, enjoying the surprise of the outcome. Her art represents the duality of separateness and togetherness, symbolizing one’s unique place in the universe while acknowledging our shared journey.
It has become important to Tamara to bring community into her creative process. While she finds relaxation in the meditative, solitary process of creating a single mandala, she also values the importance of sharing her creations with others and appreciating the work of those around her. This is one reason why teaching art workshops has become a significant part of her work.
Tamara also creates pieces that incorporate multiple mandala designs, merging them into purposeful compositions or collages. Her spinning painted vinyl pieces add movement to her artwork, functioning as a single work of art when spun together—separate pieces creating something new.
