About the event

Friendly Listening Room “Open House” with  Aurora & Antheia, Katt Holiday and Victoria Storm Duo

Known for their richly layered color and rhythmic vitality, Michigan-based trio Aurora & Antheia brings their inventive blend of electric violin, sweeping cello, and global percussion to the Friendly Listening Room. Don't miss a masterclass in cross-genre improvisation and compelling, melodic storytelling.

Global Strings & Percussion Trio Aurora & Antheia: Live in the Friendly Listening Room

Woven together from diverse backgrounds in classical, jazz, Celtic, and world music, this trio has carved out a unique space where folk and Americana meet expansive, cinematic textures. Beneath their lyrical, melody-driven writing lies a fierce and driving rhythmic energy.

Cori Beth Somers brings her fiery electric violin to the stage, focusing her seasoned improvisational energy on folk, rock, and blues. She is perfectly matched by cellist Laurie Jarski, whose music is distinguished by antiphonal interplay and a fascination with exploring percussive elements on instruments not commonly used for percussion.

Grounding their unexpected and compelling sonic textures is Carolyn Koebel, an in-demand global percussionist whose deep expertise spans from Celtic ensembles to Japanese taiko drumming. Together, these three inventive musicians fuse their instruments into a seamless vehicle of artistic expression.

Their live show is truly unique—an intimate display of world-class musicianship and warm stage presence. Come for the sweeping, conversational interplay of the strings and stay for the raw, driving world rhythms.

Aurora & Antheia Are Joined By Indie Folk Troubadour Katt Holiday

Katt Holiday is an independent singer-songwriter and musician based in Makanda, Illinois (aka “The Hippiest Town in Illinois”). Born into an Air Force family in Felixstowe, England, he spent his early childhood in Arkansas before his family settled in Illinois. He began playing guitar at age seven and eventually became deeply involved in the local music scene.

Holiday’s eclectic howl bridges folk, punk, Americana, and experimental rock. As a songwriter, he shifts fluidly between grounded, acoustic songs exploring real world themes and more unconventional, esoteric soundscapes. Throughout his career, he has been a fixture in numerous Southern Illinois bands and currently performs as the guitarist and vocalist for the psychedelic electro-rock project Children of the Rat Temple.

As a solo artist, he released the full-length album DESIREPATH in 2024. You can follow his latest projects and updates on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/katt_holiday.

Victoria Storm Duo featuring Ed Sullivan

Whether performing with Kettlestrings, her own band Victoria Storm & The Radishes, or solo, Victoria Storm plays rooms that change people. Victoria writes from the middle of real life – the grief, the humor, the ordinary grace – then sings it back to a room until strangers feel like neighbors and neighbors feel like family. She is joined for this show by renowned bassist, composer, arranger Ed Sullivan in an acoustic duo format, who is also a bandmate in The Radishes as well as first call accompanist for “Chicago’s official troubadour” Mark Dvorak.
