Double Bill: The Scovilles and Beatnik Poets

The word is out and on the streets - The Beatnik Poets are a free thinking Chicago beat group that aren’t afraid to challenge the hackneyed notion that rock and roll is rebellion played by a “bunch of dopes.” They write and perform their own material that is both “challenging and beautiful, man.” To be sure, the BP’s don’t dig negative vibes, “we’re all about the positive, baby” say’s their front man, guitarist, and song writer Scat, along with Digits, on keys, Billy on the skins, and Tony dropping in the low end on bass. Their latest single, “Take a Powder” a vinyl release, will soon be available at all major outlets and streaming platforms along with their full length album "Burnin'the Candle" released earlier this year's on iTunes, Spotify,etc. So If you need a real kick-in-the-pants, go see this terrific outfit live. The Scovilles are a new Rock and Roll band, but this guitar-centric trio has years of collective experience steeped in Roots/Americana music. Chicago native singer/guitarist Steve Szczeblowski cut his teeth playing Punk and Rockabilly in high school, channeling his inner Link Wray and founding a number of local bands, most notably The Moondogs, who shared bills with legends Ronnie Dawson, Sleepy LaBeef, Robert Gordon, The Stray Cats and many more. Bassist/Music Professor Cody “The Goose” Siragusa also hails from Chicago, a veteran of The Million Dollar Quartet musical, Rosie & the Rivets, The Cadillac Casanovas and Old Grand Dad. Rhythmist-in-Chief Chris Swade will be the first to remind you what Joe Strummer once said, “You're only as good as your drummer”, and he knows how to rock and swing with the best of ‘em!
